Day trip: discover Taroudant
Embark on a captivating journey to Taroudant, a charming town nestled in the Souss Valley in southwestern Morocco. Located just 80 km from Agadir, Taroudant offers picturesque views and is protected by charming ocher-colored ramparts which alone are worth the trip. This former capital of the sub-Saharan region features a small but intriguing medina and souks.
Often nicknamed "Little Marrakech", Taroudant deserves this nickname not only because of its large protective walls and bustling scenes of mopeds, street vendors and pedestrians but also for its rich historical tapestry and remarkable remains that await to be explored. Once your vehicle is parked, the real exploration begins on foot. The route extends over six kilometers, leading you to the shadow of majestic ramparts. These pink-hued walls feature nine arched doors, each with a name, adding a touch of elegance beyond simple numbers. The craft bazaar located in the city's labyrinthine alleys is famous for its exquisite Berber silver jewelry, a much-loved tradition. The famous carpets of Taroudant also attract you; travelers venture from distant lands to indulge in the art of haggling for these Berber treasures.
Nestled among the mountains – the High Atlas to the north and east and the Anti-Atlas to the south – Taroudant rests in the heart of a lush valley. Venture 30 km southeast to discover the Tiout palm grove, perched on a rocky prominence reminiscent of Marrakech. Here, the remains of an old kasbah have been converted into a tourist restaurant, offering breathtaking views from its summit. The view extends over the High Atlas and the Souss Valley, a breathtaking panorama. It was in this palm grove that Fernandel brought Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves to life on screen in 1954.
 
This captivating Berber city reveals a treasure of sites and experiences while being ideally located on the road to Agadir. Take the opportunity to explore the mansard-roofed villages dating back to the 16th century, a must-see before they fade into history.
